In a world where sequels are dime-a-dozen, it's rare to come across an expansion pack that not only lives up to its predecessor but also exceeds expectations. Enter Painkiller: The Lost World, the first of three downloadable content packs for People Can Fly's critically acclaimed shooter.

Set several years after the events of the original game, Hell & Damnation left us on a cliffhanger as Lucifer himself was dispatched from his throne by our hero Daniel (or whatever name you so choose to call him). With Satan gone and an empty seat at the table in hell, it seems like business-as-us-ual for this demon-infested realm. But don't be fooled - things are about to get much more interesting.

The Lost World brings a whole new level of chaos to our already-bloody world with three brand-new maps set across picturesque oceanic settings: Monastery, Docks and Ruains (yes that's misspelled). Each map promises hours upon hours of intense action as hordes upon hordes of demonic creatures come pouring out from every nook & cranny looking for someone - anyone!- to rip apart with their hellish blades.

But it doesn't stop there folks. Oh no, because what would be complete without a brand-new boss fight? Enter the behemoth known simply as 'The Leviathan'. This sea-monster-sized monstrosity will test even the most seasoned Painkiller veteran's mettle as they face off against its mighty tentacles in an epic battle for survival.

And speaking of new things, The Lost World also introduces a brand-new weapon to Daniel's already impressive arsenal - enter 'The Infernal Stake'. This hellish implement of destruction can be wielded in close-combat situations to dispatch multiple enemies at once with ease. Just imagine taking down whole groups of demons while simultaneously being surrounded by lava spewing geysers and giant tentacles flailing about everywhere else... heaven on earth, if you ask me!

But wait there's more! In addition to all these new toys & tricks, The Lost World also brings a much deeper storyline than before. With multiple branching paths leading off into unknown territories (literally), players will have plenty of reason to replay through each level several times over just trying out different routes and seeing where they end up.

Overall? Painkiller: The Lost World is an absolute must-have for fans of action-packed shooters looking for more blood-soaked mayhem. With its engaging storyline, addictive gameplay mechanics, and beautifully designed maps (seriously - those ocean views are simply stunning), this expansion pack truly does deliver on every level imaginable.
